In 1915, planes appeared over the battlefields of the First World War, which even the most daring science fiction writers at the beginning of the 20th century could not imagine. Huge four -engine bombers “Ilya Muromets”, created by the brilliant Russian aircraft designer Igor Sikorsky, were horrified by the enemy. Until the end of the Great War, no one else was able to create anything like this.
The revolution destroyed not only old Russia, but also its emerging aircraft industry. And the Civil War forever separated the two siblings of the brothers who fought at the Muromtsy – Sergey and Mikhail Nikolsky. One emigrated and lived in France all his life, the other preferred to stay in Soviet Russia. Both of them, independently of each other, left the most valuable memories: Sergey Nikolaevich – in the form of a front -line diary, and Mikhail Nikolaevich – in the form of a review of the combat work of the bombers “Ilya Muromets” during the First World and Civil War.
