Antonio Pereira Nobra (1867–1900) is one of the best Portuguese poets of the end of the nineteenth century, about which Fernando Pessoa, a symbol of the Portuguese literature of the new time, said: “When he was born, we were all born.” Antonio Nobra was the first to reveal the soul and the national way of life of the Portuguese to Europeans. Autobiographical topics and motives are the main material that the poet operates; They, like the geographical space of his verses – villages and cities of his native land, sparkling in his poems with magic colors – are transformed into a myth.
To date, Nobra was unknown to the Russian reader. The dead from tuberculosis, not having lived to 33 years, during his lifetime he published only one book. This edition presents its full translation, made by Irina Feschenko-Skvortsova. Comments on poetry help the reader more deeply understanding the atmosphere of Portugal in the late 19th century.
