Gabriel Konstantinovich (1887-1955), the great-grandson of Emperor Nicholas I, and the second cousin of Nicholas II, was the second son of Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich, president of the Academy of Sciences, the famous poet K.R., and Grand Duke Elizabeth Mavrikievna, nee Princess Saksen-altenburg. He was born in Pavlovsk, which was owned by his family, lived in the marble palace in St. Petersburg, studied in the First Moscow Corps, the Nikolaev Cavalry School, the Alexander Lyceum and the Military Academy. He participated in the First World War, on which his brother Oleg died. He married Antonin Nesterovskaya, the former ballerin of the Mariinsky Theater. Gabriel Konstantinovich was only 29 years old when a revolution occurred. His three brothers were executed by the Bolsheviks, and he was arrested, but thanks to the efforts of his wife, Bokia, Gorky and a successful coincidence, he was released and he went to Finland.
