P. I. Melnikov (pseudonym – Andrei Pechersky) – the famous Russian writer of the 19th century, author of the famous epic dilogy “in the forests” and “on the mountains”.
“In the forests” is a multifaceted historical narrative telling about the life of the Zabolzh Old Believer population, about peasant crafts, the life of the merchants and schismatic monastery. The description of the Volga region is given against the background of poetic paintings of nature and the richest ethnographic and folklore material.
