All the heroes of this book live in a boarding house, owned by an elderly lady, Frau Shulce located in a small German town. The tenants – all, without exception, the immigrants from Ukraine (this is a whim of the mistress) – practically do not communicate with each other, and therefore their stories almost do not intersect, turning around each in itself. There is one thing for them, except for the place of residence, they are all stubbornly trying to seem not to be those who are actually. And the mistress of the boarding house is watching all their guests, knowing much more about them than they are about themselves. And this is not a simple curiosity, because from them she needs to choose only one thing – the one who deciphers a letter from the distant past for her.
