At first glance, having returned from the first world fronts to the family in Harbin, Colonel of the Russian Army Alexander von Adelberg leads the life of a peaceful layman. Having changed his military uniform to a civilian suit, he goes to serve in the Office of the Chinese Eastern Railway, visits the dinner and balls with his wife, accepts guests, leaves for the cottage. His son Sashik grows in an atmosphere of love, trust and, it would seem, has no secrets from parents. However, the world and well -being of the city rests on fragile balance. Too many multidirectional military and political interests came together on the territory of Manchuria.
