The literary fate of Maria Petrov (1908 – 1979) was not easy. During her life, she was known primarily as a magnificent translator, the first and only lifetime book of her poems instantly disappeared from the book counters. The posthumous publications also diverged instantly. Her work was highly appreciated by B. Pasternak, A. Akhmatova, O. Mandelstam. The lyrics of M. Petrov, performed by drama, reveals the character strong and delicate. Many of her poems, from the thirties to the seventies, are imbued with an aggravated civil feeling and sound as if written in our days.
