Outstanding Russian historical painter K.P. Bryullov lived in the first half of the XIX century. His work, which has grown up on the basis of strict classicism, spiritualizes the charm of romanticism, revives the features of direction that is born in the art of realism. About the outstanding picture “The Last Day of Pompeii”, which brought the artist world fame, poets composed poems. In addition to historical paintings, portraits of the artist’s brush are included in the set of reproductions – this is another component of his outstanding heritage. He created a gallery of portraits of the Russian intelligentsia of the late 1830-1840s, including V. Zhukovsky, A. Stragovshchikov, Yu. Samoilov, I. Krylov, A.K. Tolstoy, N. Kukolnik and others. One of the most remarkable and tragic images created by the artist is still attracting attention – his last self -portrait.
