In the mass consciousness, famous cultural figures of the Soviet period appear as innocent victims of the Red Monster. In many ways, of course, it was so. However, not everything was so simple. The relations of cultural figures – including writers – were very difficult with the Soviet government. The authorities tried to use writers for their own purposes, they in their own. The author offers to look at the great writers of the Soviet era with a look, not blurred by a tear of emotion. They were what they were. Complex people who lived in a very difficult age. That is what are interesting.
