By decision of UNESCO in 2001, the whole cultural world celebrated the two hundredth anniversary of Vladimir Ivanovich Dal – Russian writer, ethnographer, and folklorist.
The “Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language”, the richest treasury of the Russian language compiled by him, was and remains the most complete encyclopedia of Slavic history, life, and morals of the past centuries.
In this publication, for the first time, the full text of the famous dictionary, transferred to a modern alphabet and spelling, is proposed for the first time. This will greatly facilitate the use of the dictionary reader of the 21st century.
