The monograph by I. L. Galinskaya is a study of the two opposite poles of modern literature in English. Firstly, it is a high genre of documentary prose, which studies historical events and phenomena of public life. Secondly, it is a low genre of “mass fiction”, that is, prose works of a low artistic level. The first part of the monograph is dedicated to the documentary prose of the famous American writer Norman Kingsley Meyler. His books affected the most sensitive nerve of the modern spiritual life of the West.
The second part of the book is dedicated to the seven-year epic of the English writer Joan Ketling Rowling about the wizard boy Harry Potter. Immediately after the release of the first volume of Potteriana, readers divided into two camps – supporters and opponents of Harry Potter. The opinions of literary critics turned out to be equally polar.
The book of I. L. Galinskaya is designed for a wide range of specialists in the field of humanitarian knowledge.
