Having developed a cunning strategy and tactics of seduction of the young girl Cecil de Wolage, they masterfully play human weaknesses and shortcomings. The ups and downs of the plot at the beginning of the XXI century cause no less acute interest to readers than in 1782, when the novel only went out of the press. This is confirmed by the success of the recent adaptations of the novel.
