Federigo Gozzi is a recognized pride of Italian literature, a classic of the first magnitude and an object of meticulous study. It is fully considered one of the best Italian novelists at the beginning of the 20th century. The psychologism and expressionism of his prose with the deliberate impassivity of the narrative made Tozzi inimitable master of style. The writer’s early death did not allow him to recognize glory, all the brighter she flared up after his death. The novel “Closing the Eyes” (1919) – the only novel published during the life of the writer – is distinguished by autobiographicality.
