In the early Christian period, the Celtic ornament was used to decorate stone monuments and parchment manuscripts, silver and gold bowls, cancer and stoves. It was at this time that such famous works of art as a book from Kells, a bowl from Arda and a cross from Kong were created. In his classical work, Henry Crawford not only describes in detail the ornaments of stone monuments of that era, but also gives about 300 illustrations of this type of jewelry, originating in the Celtic, pre -Christian, period. Its photographic “reconstruction” of strongly damaged and monuments are also unique.
This book was first published in 1926 by the Royal Society of the Study of Irish Antiquities entitled “Guide to Related Ornament from the Irish monuments of the Christian period.” In 1980, it was reprinted by the Merser Press Publishing House under the name of the Irish Reashed Ornament.
