On the hot noon on Parisian Boulevard, two middle -aged gentlemen – Buvar and Pekushi met and talked. It turned out that both of them rewrite the papers in the office, and devote all their free time to “scientific studies”. About friendship at first sight, about these funny eccentrics, disinterestedly and without the slightest reciprocity of lovers in science, about human stupidity and its unique charm and is told in this novel by Gustav Flaubert. The great French writer devoted almost six years of his life to this novel, and the remaining unfinished. Upon the release of the book, one critic who adored “Madame Bovary” called “Buvara and Pekush” a mistake, and the other (Remi de Gurmon) said that this was the greatest work of world literature. The reader has the right to conclude.
