Autobiographical story I.S. Shmeleva (1873-1950) “The Pogarrix”, written (June 1930-Dekabr 1931) away from Russia, in France, is a tribute to heart memory and love to the Monk Sergius of Radonezh. The executive writer with deep nostalgia, marginal sincerity and unsurpassed skill tells how half a century ago (presumably in the summer of 1879), six years old, he, along with his old home-made mentor and several pious pilgrims from his native Zamoskvorechye, walked from Moscow to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra bow and pray to the great Russian saint.
