Baltic bridgehead (1939-1940). The return of the Soviet Union to the shores of the Baltic Sea: Mikhail Meltyukhov

The book is dedicated to the study of complex Soviet-Pribalian relations of 1939-1940. In the second half of the twentieth century, in Soviet historiography, these events were studied taking into account the political situation and all the most difficult topics were mentioned in passing, or even simply silent. Then, in post -Soviet historiography, he prevailed a sharply critical approach to the description of these problems. However, with the expansion of access to the documents of that period, it became possible to impartially look at the Soviet-Pribaltian relations in their dynamics. The reader finds out in what military-political situation the Soviet-Privable agreements were signed on mutual assistance, how the Soviet military bases were created in the Baltic states and with what problems the troops of the Red Army placed there were faced, how the relations of the USSR and the Baltic states in the fall of 1939-in the spring of 1940 were formed.
