The book is a documentary narrative about the life and activity of a person whose name is associated with an entire era in the history of Russia – Count Alexei Andreyevich Arakcheev (1769-1834). Based on the documents, most of which are extracted from the archives, is given the image of a large dignitary who played the most important roles in the mechanism of autocratic power at the end of the 18th – first quarter of the 19th century, the secret springs of its elevation, the true meaning of the phenomenon called the Arakcheevschina are revealed. Arakcheevās colorful personality is drawn against the background of the events of that time, in relations with the emperors Paul I, Alexander I and Nikolai I, as well as prominent Russian dignitaries and generals: P.I. Melissino, M.M. Speransky, P.I. Bagration, M.B. Barclaye de Tolly and others.
The author is a professor of law faculty of Moscow University. M.V. Lomonosov – intends his book for a wide range of readers.
