The book of the famous French historian Fustsl de Kulange is devoted to the history of ancient civilizations. The author begins his study with the study of the religion of the ancients. In his opinion, “beliefs about the soul and death” underlie all customs, rituals, and the very way of life of an ancient person. Analyzing the relationship between religion, laws and public institutions, Kulanzh came to the conclusion that more or less significant changes in the public life of Greece and Rome were due to changes taking place in the field of religious beliefs.
