The book is dedicated to surrealism (from French “Sur” – over, above) – one of the leading artistic directions in the world art of the first half of the 20th century.
Surrealism – “art of higher reality” – was a brilliant exponent of internal contradictions and the spiritual discord of mankind in the period between the two world wars. Surrealists considered the romantics of the first half of the 19th century to their predecessors, as well as the symbolists of the late X1x and early XX centuries. Having become the heir to the ideas of symbolism, dadaism and metaphysical painting, creatively rethinking their discoveries, surrealism, in turn, gave an impetus to the emergence and development of such directions in world art as magical realism in the USA and fantastic realism in Austria, and also significantly affected the further development of contemporary art: abstract expressionism and abstract expressionism and his birth were largely obligated to him.
