Alexis, or reasoning about a vain struggle: Margrit Yursenar

The novel “Aleksis”, printed in 1929, is one of the very first works by Margerit Yursenar. This is a confession of a homosexual in the form of a farewell letter to his wife, from whom the hero leaves. “Alexis” – energy in prose, deep and transparent. Yursenar chose for her novel emphasizing the classic manner of writing, marked by an extraordinary lexical chastity. The novel was translated into Russian for the first time.
