The book of the famous historian V.G. Sirotkina is devoted to difficult relations between France and Russia on the eve of the war of 1812. The author considers the issues that were addressed in personal negotiations and in the secret correspondence of the French emperor Napoleon I and the Russian Tsar Alexander I.
All this resembled a duel in which both sides were ready to fight to the end. According to the author, the personal confrontation of the two emperors was also a dramatic nature because it could end with the Union of Russia and France, and not a brutal war.
