In this book, which is one of the key works of the famous Slovenian philosopher and social theoretician of Slava, a systematic presentation of the Lakanov theory of political subjectivity is proposed. Criticism of key approaches to subjectivity is presented: the subject of German classical philosophy, the political subject of the French postalussurian political philosophy and the deconstructivist subject. Applying the Lakanov’s concept of the subject to the field of politics, Zizhek claims that since any symbolic structure, including ideology, is marked by a constitutive “lack”, the subject is trying either to “fill” or hide it in the hope of giving social life a strong reason. However, such attempts inevitably turn out to be in vain, since the subject itself is never completely constituted.
The book is of interest not only for philosophers, political scientists, sociologists, but also for the widest audience.
