Alexander Nikolaevich Zerkhanovich (1862-1897) is a talented Russian fiction writer, one of many workers of the pen, whose premature death cut off the creative and life path at the time of the heyday. He left an unusually diverse literary inheritance: domestic and moralizing novels, criminal and adventure novels … Tsekhanovich collaborated with many editions of newspapers and magazines of St. Petersburg, but published mainly in the periodical, the writer did not wait for the appearance of his works as books. Only posthumously, through the efforts of the publishers, his prose was collected and released.
In this volume, two works of the writer are published. The novel “A terrible thing” tells of the grandiose scam and the insurmountable power over the people of its organizer – the handsome hypnotist. In the novel The Secret of the Gloomy House, villainy and virtue, puzzle tricks of scammers and the celebration of analysts of Russian investigation converge.
