“Ninety -Third year” is a brilliant novel by Viktor Hugo (1802-1885), telling about the most interesting pages of the Great French Revolution. The plot is based on one of the episodes of the struggle of revolutionary Paris with an uprising that flashed in the north of the country in Vandea. The attitude of Hugo, the patriarch of romanticism, philosopher, moralist, to revolution and violence far ambiguously. The rebellious world depicted by the author is full of contradictions: terror and mercy, honor and betrayal, blind faith in the idea and repentance, bloodshed and triumph of the spirit – all these problems grow to the scale of the world, enduring. However, the writer’s belief that the final change in society will occur by rebirth of a person from the inside, gives this large -scale narrative a special charm and depth. It is not for nothing that Hugo’s fascinating work, full of adventures and unexpected plot turns, are ranked to the masterpieces of the historical genre.
