Was Alexey Mikhailovich a conservative who was desperately clinging to the old orders, or, conversely, a successful reformer?
Was he a “quiet” king, striving for peace, the dominance of law and justice, or, on the contrary, a bloody tyrant, who continuously fought all his long reign – with the Poles, Swedes, Little Russian Hetmans, Crimean Tatars, Turks, Chinese, Stenka Razin and even with the monks of the Solovetsky monastery?
Was Alexey Mikhailovich the most pious king of the dynasty or completely different – the ruler, for the sake of momentary benefit to the split of the Russian Church, the consequences of which are not overcome today?
And most importantly, where he led Russia – to the bright future, but without the extremes and excesses characteristic of his great son, or was it a road to nowhere?
