The diary of the holy righteous father John of Kronstadt for 1863-1864. It continues to develop the themes of previous diaries, but it is distinguished from the early ones by the significant content of the notes of a deeply personal, confessional nature, the sincerity of which makes on the reader the deepest impression. Father John of Kronstadt with its maximum openness tells what a tough, merciless struggle he has to wage in his soul with the sinfulness of a carnal man. And although the diary is intimate and it is written, as a rule, for better introspection, self -teaching – Father John encourages us to follow him in his spiritual aspiration. And this, of course, is the main value of the diary.
It is no accident, presumably, at the very beginning of the diary there is a record of Father John about the need to share his spiritual experience and the “writing hand”, and “verbal”, and “good deeds”.
The theme of God’s knowledge, the host and the starting for the rest, passes through the entire diary. It is indicated by a brief gospel formula …
