The publication includes the selected works of P. A. Druzhinin in the field of heraldic research of book monuments. On the basis of the richest material, which has been collected in storages of rare books and private collections for many years, the author systematizes heraldic sources applied to the bindings of ancient books as signs of noble property; Reconstructs the history of their origin, existence and study, offers the methodology of their attribution, dwells in detail on the issue of falsification of heraldic sources. The consolidated catalog of Russian emblems on book bindings – the so -called heraldic superexlibris – is the second volume of the publication and is a unique reference book on the history of heraldry and book gathering of pre -revolutionary Russia.
