Collections of the poems of Joseph Brodsky (1940-1996) “Stop in the desert” (1970), “End of the beautiful era” (1977), “Part of speech”, “New Stances by August” (1983), “Urania” (1987) and “Laying Lowing” (1996) were published in the 1970-1990s at the American publishing house “Ardis”. The poet himself worked on the compilation of these books in cooperation with his friends Karl and Elland Proffer, the founders of Ardis. In this legendary publishing house, as in the publishing houses “Sowing” and “IMCA-Press”, works of Russian literature were published for many years, which could not see the light in the Soviet Union. Brodsky wrote about Charles Professor: “He returned the continuity of development to Russian literature and thereby restored its dignity … He saved numerous Russian writers and poets from oblivion, from distortion of their words, from nervous illness and despair. Moreover, he changed the climate of Russian literature.” The collection “The End of the Beautiful Age”, presented in this publication, included poems of 1964-1971.
