We walk under the convoy. Stories from Camp life: Isaac Filchensky

I. M. Filstinsky is a famous vestoved scientist, author of many works on Arab history and literature. In the declining years, he talks about what he himself was experienced during the years of repression, when he was sent to the Stalin camps by denunciation. From the majority of the previously published camp memories “we are walking under the escort” are distinguished by the lack of revealing pathos. He draws a camp as a kingdom of tragic absurdity, in which, however, there is a place of love and compassion. Filstinsky narrates not so much about himself as about the people with whom fate pushed the young scientist in the Gulag. Each chapter of the book is essentially a whole novel, compressed to the volume of a novel.
