Vikenty Vikentievich Veresaev (real name Smidovich, 1867-1945)-a wonderful prose writer, publicist, poet-translator. He is called an artist-historian of the Russian intelligentsia. What is especially valuable in the work of the writer is a deep truthfulness in the image of society, as well as love for all who rebelly looking for resolution of socio -moral issues. As a military doctor, Veresaev in 1904-1905 participated in the Russo-Japanese War, the events of which was unusually bright and clearly portrayed in the notes “in the Japanese War.” According to Maxim Gorky, these tragic pages of our history found in Veresaev a truly “sober, honest witness.”
